Agenda
The Diversity Awareness Initiative for Students (DAIS) does the following through its activities:
Develop Leadership
DAIS convenes meetings twice a month throughout the academic year, either at various schools in the New York City area, or, if necessary, by using a virtual platform. Students create, plan and discuss topics on issues of diversity and social justice, often highlighting specific social identifiers.
Encourage Dialogue
DAIS students participate in trained, peer facilitated dialogue, which helps build self-confidence, improves communication skills and promotes positive conflict resolution capabilities. As the students continue to participate in these discussions, they develop into leaders.
Promote Outreach
DAIS students are encouraged to bring what they have learned from their peer discussions, back to their schools and communities, in an effort to help others develop and maintain an environment of awareness, tolerance and acceptance of broad aspects of diversity and social justice.
Grow Community
DAIS provides the benefit of a valuable network of students from a wide selection of participating schools and backgrounds.
